All-rounder Cameron Green replaces injured Josh Inglis in Australia's T20 World Cup squad – PlanetSport

As such, Australia will go into the tournament without a reserve wicketkeeper.

Inglis cut open his right hand and required stitches after a freak mishap while playing golf on Wednesday morning, with the handle of his six-iron club snapping on impact.

He would have been unlikely to feature in the hosts and defending champions’ opener against New Zealand at Sydney on Saturday and his place in Australia’s 15-strong group has gone to the highly-rated Green.

The change, ratified by the International Cricket Council’s event technical committee on Thursday, means Australia are gambling on first-choice stumper Matthew Wade not going down on a matchday.

Such an occurrence would mean there is no recognised understudy – although opening batter David Warner donned the gloves in Thursday’s training practice.

Green has played in just seven T20 internationals but has been encouraging as an opening batter with two fifties and being able to bowl in the mid-to-high 80mph means he is an attractive option.
The time has come to defend our World Cup title 👊
