The Australian Sports Foundation has received $76 million in donations from people who are recognising the value of community sport.
“Community sport got hammered by the pandemic and also suffered from natural disasters … and the current rising cost of living has made it unaffordable for many families to get their families into sport,” Australian Sports Foundation Chief Executive Patrick Walker told Sky News Australia.
“Donors are recognising the value of sport to communities. It’s not just about physical fitness, it’s about mental health, social cohesion, bringing the community together.
“You put the two together, a massive increase.”
