Thibaut Courtois, Real Madrid’s Belgian goalkeeper, highlighted the importance of not conceding goals in the European Super Cup final, the third consecutive European final that leaves a clean sheet.
“I had two or three important saves in the first half, especially that of Kamada alone with me, in which I saw the movement and that he was going to shoot to my left. We played a very complete game, we were able to score a few more goals. The last three finals that we have played we have kept a clean sheet and it is key to play,” he said on Movistar.
“When Real Madrid plays a final they usually win it, that’s how this club is and that’s why it’s the biggest”, he added.
The Madrid goalkeeper sees the team in a good physical moment despite being the first official match of the new season. “I don’t think we are far from one hundred percent physically, we showed it against Juve and today as well. We are very good. Now in August we have a week to prepare each game and then with the Champions League there is no longer time to prepare games and we have to be okay”.
Finally, he highlighted the difficulty that increases by being the team to beat. “It is always more difficult each year because the teams are more eager to face a champion. September and October will be very important in the League and Champion before going to the World Cup, leaving the club at the top of the table to leave with a clearer head”.
